How to sell a home during a divorce

Divorce and moving are two of the most stressful events a California resident may experience. Moving because of a divorce may be painful, but there are ways to get through it with a minimal amount of stress. For instance, it may be a good idea to designate one person to talk to the agent. This person will also relay information from the agent to the other spouse.

Taking this step may help make communicating easier while also keeping the agent from getting in the middle of personal conflicts. If it looks like a conflict may occur, it may be best to simply remember what the goal of the home sale is. For most, it will be to sell the house for as much as possible. By keeping personal squabbles to a minimum, it may be easier for an agent to get the best price for the home.

As with any other home sale, it may be worthwhile to spend time fixing little issues with the property. This may include buffing the floors or painting over any scuffs or marks on the walls. If the sink leaks or there are other issues with the plumbing, those should be taken care of as well. Any issues that aren’t taken care of by the homeowner generally need to be disclosed when selling the home.

When selling a residential property, it may be a good idea to talk with a real estate agent or an attorney. Doing so may make it easier to learn more about disclosure requirements and other responsibilities that a seller may have. An attorney may be able to go over a purchase agreement or other documents that were created during the sale process. This may allow sellers to accept deals that are in their best interest.
